Ingeborgh Roeters, from Teteringen in Brabant, is the recruitment team leader at Tzorg, which provides household support and individual counseling to its clients. The nationwide organization regularly has job openings, but how do they reach the right people for these positions? Last year, she signed up for the Career Fair—which will take place on November 20 this year—where people can casually connect with potential future employers. How does she look back on that experience? “This year, we’re participating more actively, now with a lot of colleagues.”

Ingeborgh, have you been working at Tzorg for a long time?
“It’s been over 10 years now. I started as a planner, then moved on to become a care coordinator, after which I joined the recruitment department and became a recruitment specialist. And for the past few months, I’ve been the recruitment team leader, so I’ve already been able to take a number of exciting steps within this wonderful organization.”
And then, all of a sudden, the Career Exploration Day pops up on your radar?
“That was a coincidence. When I became a recruitment specialist, I scoured the internet for articles or other resources that could be useful to us. One of my goals was to promote our job openings on the right platforms. That’s when I came across the “Work Visit Day” on LinkedIn. It quickly caught my attention, so I signed up. That’s how it all got started.”

So, did a bunch of people come over afterward?
“No, I chose to do it through Teams—online, that is. Those were nice introductory conversations and, in some cases, even job interviews. I ended up speaking with five people, and one of them came in for a job interview at our office. Unfortunately, that didn’t lead to a job offer, because she was a really nice girl. But I did consider that day a success. I had some great conversations. Some were specifically focused on the job openings we had, but there were also conversations with people who just wanted to know all about the organization. Yeah, it was really fun. I thought it was pretty special how these people ended up reaching out to me, since this was the first time we’d participated in this. And it just goes to show that an online Career Day like this really works!
Worth repeating?
“Absolutely. I was the only one from our team who participated, and this year several colleagues have signed up. We’re a large national organization, and we have many recruiters—almost all of whom will be participating. They’ve signed up so that we can focus more specifically on different regions. I used to work in the area around Breda and Uden, but now there are also colleagues working in the Randstad, Utrecht, and Limburg, as well as in the northern part of the country.”
What makes this initiative different from others?
“It’s very accessible. And the fact that I did it via Teams makes it even more accessible. People felt free to ask anything. And it works both ways: it’s not just the people who reach out to us who are looking for something—we’re also looking for people. Whether it’s for housekeeping support, caregiving, or office work. I also enjoyed being able to explain what we do and that we’re not just housekeepers or caregivers. Our home care aides are so much more than that! Plus, I always find it interesting to learn about the different kinds of people out there, what someone is looking for, and, yes, what we’re looking for. Through these conversations, you get a better sense of each other and quickly figure out if we’re a good fit. By asking each other questions, you gain clear insights and can see if there are opportunities within the organization.”

What did you learn from the conversations?
“During all the interviews I conducted, I always started by asking what their impression of the position was, based on our job posting. This was to see if what we meant had come across clearly. Or does it come across very differently and seem like a completely different position? For example, does it clearly come across that we’re very flexible and that you really don’t have to be at the clients’ doorstep at 8:30 every morning? That you can start later if you’d rather drop your kids off at school first. And that with us, you can work four hours or even 24. We try to tailor the position so that everyone can go to work with peace of mind and a warm heart.
What are you guys doing on November 20? Will people be coming to your office, or will it be online again?
“I know there are organizations that actually organize in-person open house days—at the company’s own location—but that’s a bit more difficult for us because our work mainly takes place at our clients’ homes. That makes it a little more complicated. But doing it online worked really well last year; it’s really easy to ask each other questions that way and explain who we are. So we’re continuing with that. But this time, with lots of colleagues on their laptops. I’m really looking forward to it.”
